Sparhawk middle school student writing a response in history class.

Sparhawk School uses an academically and artistically-rich approach to teaching reading, writing, speaking and listening through historic and literary analysis. Critical thinking is the keystone of our interdisciplinary humanities curriculum.

Your child will be immersed in the practice of deep reading and will also learn the craft of thoughtful writing and speaking. Together, our students learn to formulate questions and listen to others' ideas in small discussion groups, think through different viewpoints and develop their own voice and values. They learn to use logical arguments and to support their opinion. Through debate, analyzing literature and writing research papers, they pay attention to tone and voice, and begin to craft an individual style of communicating that presents information in clear and coherent narratives.
