Orton-Gillingham Support

Sparhawk students requiring additional support in the areas of literacy will be able to receive private or small-group instruction on campus from an experienced tutor trained in the Orton-Gillingham (OG) method of reading instruction. Our tutor will design an individualized program after completing an assessment and reviewing background information. The intent will be to remediate weaknesses in phonemic awareness, phonics and fluency. The OG approach is a direct, multi-sensory, sequential and diagnostic way to teach literacy skills such as reading, writing, and spelling to those students with challenges in acquiring these skills. OG is a powerful tool in helping students, especially those with dyslexia or other language based disabilities, achieve success and gain confidence. OG focuses upon the learning needs of each individual student.

The Orton-Gillingham Approach is:

  • multisensory
  • language-based
  • sequential, cumulative
  • cognitive
  • flexible

There is limited enrollment in this program. To add this support to your child's curriculum at Sparhawk School, please contact our Admissions Department at Admissions@sparhawkschool.com.
