We are thrilled to present our Young Playwrights Showcase--an evening of performances of ten-minute plays written by our students. The event takes place on Saturday, June 1 at 7pm in the Sparhawk theater.
There will be approximately 7-8 plays will be performed by of student actors and faculty. The emphasis of our production is on the written word and bringing these works to life. Therefore, we are working with minimal set pieces, props, and blocking in a more informal black box atmosphere. Many of the pieces will be performed as staged readings.
I am extremely proud of the effort made by ALL of the students who are participating in this exciting project. The Young Playwrights Showcase has become a highly anticipated staple of the Sparhawk drama program.
As an interesting side note…I am proud and excited to say we have, once again, taken part in the Massachusetts Young Playwrights Project. The goal of the project, which is associated with The Boston Playwrights’ Theatre at Boston University, is to bring the work of new young writers into the theatre. This year we had plays written by Michael Austein, Parker Rogers, and Charlie Baker all make it into the festival, and performed by professional actors in Boston. All three of these plays will be included in our upcoming showcase. This is absolutely one of my favorite events of the year. Please come support and celebrate the work of our writers, actors, tech crew at this awesome night of theater.
Thank you, and enjoy the show.
