Sparhawk, an independent, progressive school on Boston's north shore, is looking for a Spanish (II through V) teacher for students in grades 8-12. We are seeking a candidate who is open minded and has energy and passion for teaching adolescents. The successful candidate will be able to accommodate all learners using a range of materials, methods, and assessments. Coaching and curriculum are provided.
In addition the the regular school year courses, students and teachers participate in monthlong courses during January, which include travel to local, regional, national and international locations. This is an exciting opportunity for teachers to expand their teaching capacity and students to engage in eye-opening experiences. A bachelor's degree and Spanish teaching experience are required. Enthusiasm, energy, positive outlook, and flexibility are highly desirable.
Important notes about our school: As an independent, progressive school, Sparhawk is not required to follow a specific set of standards or to participate in standardized testing. At Sparhawk, we use the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for guidance but have chosen and developed our own rigorous, inquiry-based curriculum that prepares students for college while helping them develop the ability to ask and critically think through their own driving questions. We pride ourselves on cultivating students who are independent thinkers with a sense of creativity, curiosity, and self-esteem. Through our strong advising model, we foster a strong sense of community, model and build a culture of kindness and honor the range of natural human ability in learners. Our class sizes are small (< 16) and consist of multi-age groupings.
Send a resume and cover letter to Yvonne Domings at email@example.com. We look forward to speaking with you.
