Introduction to Latin
An introduction to Latin, this two-semester sequence attempts to provide students with the rudiments of grammar and syntax, with the objective of cultivating a reading knowledge of classical, patristic and medieval authors.  Our text will be Ecce Romani.  While most of our time will be dedicated to Latin grammar, syntax and vocabulary, we will also illuminate the significant etymological and linguistic intersections between this classical language and English.

Elements of Latin IA
Building on the foundations of Introduction to Latin, this two-semester sequence consolidates the insights built up over the first year of study and integrates advanced grammatical and syntactical concepts with extensive readings of Ovid’s Metamorphosis.  Our text is Latin via Ovid.  Upon successful completion of this course, students should be capable of translating virtually any Latin text if provided with a lexicon and reasonable glosses.  Prerequisite: Instructor’s permission.

Elements of Latin IB
A second-year review of Elements of Latin IA for those needing further development of their abilities.

Intermediate Latin IA
Building on the foundations of Elements of Latin, this two-semester sequence consolidates the insights built up over the first year of study and integrates advanced grammatical and syntactical concepts with more extensive readings of classical Latin authors, including selections from Ovid, Virgil, and Catullus.  Our text is Latin Via Ovid.  Upon successful completion of this course, students should be capable of translating virtually any Latin text if provided with a lexicon and reasonable glosses.  Prerequisite: Instructor’s permission
