July 10-14, 2017 - Adventures in Story Land

Explore the worlds of some of your favorite literary characters. Participate in wizardry lessons at Hogwarts, have a chat with the Cheshire Cat in Wonderland and compete in the Olympiad games with Percy Jackson.

July 17th-21st - Around the World in 80 5 Days

Pack your bags and walking shoes because we’re taking a whirlwind trip around the globe. We will be visiting five different countries from five different continents and exploring their cultures through art, music, food, and dance.  Make Maasi necklaces, learn Maori hand games, play Chamusca street soccer and create Tlingit totem poles.

July 24-28, 2017 - Life’s a Circus!

Have you ever wanted to learn how to juggle or walk on stilts? Spend a week at the Sparhawk Circus and learn how to put on a show in the Big Top!  Activities will include: Carnival games, balloon painting, stilt walking, magic tricks, juggling, carnival foods and of course a whole lot of clowning around.

July 31-August 4, 2017 - Survival Week

Have you ever wondered how to find north without using a compass? Have you ever built a fire without using matches or a fire starter? Learn the basics of wilderness survival and orienteering.  Activities will include: Shelter building, animal tracking, outdoor survival skill games, fire making and water collection and learning how to survive in the woods.

August 7-11, 2017 - Under the Sea

Join our underwater adventure through the oceanic ecosystem and discover the amazing creatures that inhabit it.  Explore tide pool science, make your own beach sand, bend and flow with sea themed yoga, and become sea creatures through a variety of art projects.

August 14-18, 2017 Up, Up, In the Air!

Become more weather-wise! How do storms form? Why can’t we be certain of tomorrow’s weather? Learn the answers to these questions and more by becoming a junior meteorologist.  Kids learn and research what the weather will be for the week and act out, present, and film themselves talking about the weather.  We will create hurricane and tornado experiments, make windsocks, paint with rain and set-up our very own weather station.

SUMMER PROGRAM VISION - In this, our 23rd year as a school, we are excited to offer an experiential nature and arts-based summer program. Students will ponder, explore, build & create. Learning adventures will take place on the beautiful grounds and in classrooms at both our Lower and Upper School locations as well as in the natural classrooms in nearby communities. The ART + NATURE staff is comprised of Sparhawk School staff and alumni as well as art and nature specialists from our extended community.

ATTENDEE EXPECTATIONS - The ART + NATURE Summer Program is experiential by design, so the children will be outdoors much of each day- rain or shine. Children should come dressed for variable weather and for art activities, both of which can be engagingly messy. We will explore ponds and streams, and traverse the undulating terrains of our woodlands and fields. If you have any questions regarding the ability of your child to fully participate in our activities, please contact the Summer Program Director at prior to registration.
