Music at Sparhawk Middle School

At the middle school level, Sparhawk students have the ability to delve deeply into a variety a musical experiences through both their arts electives course choices as well as their enrichment options.  The arts electives & enrichments vary each trimester often following similar themes to those presented in the academic classroom and include options such as found percussion, rock band, music theory & history, voice ensembles and musical theater.  Students learn to read music, explore melody, harmony, rhythm and timbre based on the Orff Schulwerk and Kodaly methods.  Our students improvise, compose, listen to and analyze music, understanding its relationship to history, culture, and other arts.  Individuals who play a particular instrument are encouraged to incorporate it into various performance opportunities at Sparhawk.

Private music lessons are available upon request and often take place after school.
